BOTOX

Lines and wrinkles are a natural and unstoppable part of the ageing process. While they are inevitable they can be prevented and reduced.

Anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax specific facial muscles that cause expression lines and dynamic wrinkles in the upper face (crow’s feet, forehead and glabellar frown lines).

The injection weakens the muscle, thus reducing the associated lines and wrinkles, giving the face a relaxed, rejuvenated look. Over time, and with repeated treatments, the lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming. Our doctors are trained to inject the right quantity of Botox on the face which ensures that the results are as natural looking as possible. The treatment involves no downtime and depending on the size of the area treated, results become visible in 3-7 days and it takes about 14 days to see the full effect. A maintenance plan is recommended to maintain the effect of your anti-wrinkle treatments, which includes having the therapy repeatedly every 4-6 months.

Common areas of the face to receive anti-wrinkle injections include the glabellar frown lines between the brow (the vertical lines that appear between your eyebrows when you frown), the crow’s feet (the lines that radiate from the corner of your eyes when you smile or squint), the forehead lines (the horizontal lines that form when you raise your eyebrows), the area along the outer edge of the brow to give the brows a slight ‘lift’, and in the jowls to reduce the ‘folding’ effect around the mouth. Our doctors can also use anti-wrinkle injections to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) with injections in the hands, feet or underarms.

Nefiriti Neck: The Nefertiti Lift is a new procedure which redefines the elegant lines of the jaw and neck for a youthful, tighter, more contoured appearance without surgery. It is a new technique achieved by placing multiple injections of Botox along the lower jaw line as well as down the side of the neck along the platysma muscle. You will notice improved tightening and overall reduction of drooping neck skin and often reduced wrinkles on the neck in as few as 3-5days. A well defined jawline with a long neck has been a sign of beauty since the time of the Egyptians. This new procedure creates a well toned, smooth neck and lifted jaw line, takes its name from Queen Nefertiti, whose elegant bone structure continues to be admired in modern times.

Issues affecting the lower face have also been attributed to modern life habits. The ‘smartphone face’ as it has been called refers to a drooping jawline caused by prolonged periods of sitting with head bent forward, shortening the neck muscles and exerting gravitational pull in the jowl region. Loss of jawline definition and flattening across the cheek area are two major aging features on the face. Injections used to treat wrinkles are now being used in the neck area to rejuvenate the jawline.

Jaw Contouring: Traditionally, jaw shaving has been the standard treatment for a disproportionate jaw. However, we offer a non-surgical alternative with the injection of Botox. This innovative method of jaw reduction has proven to carry fewer risks as opposed to jaw shaving.

The square jaw can actually look good on some men. In fact the band of muscle below the eye also gives a somewhat manly character. But it’s a different matter if it’s the demure feminine jaw line that you are looking for.

Botox can weaken the masseter muscle giving a softer angle at the jaw and a less square jaw. By blocking the action of selected muscles, very much like in treating wrinkles, we can cause the eventual atrophy (loss of muscle size) in those muscles. Except here we inject the B.Toxin into the bulk of the muscle. Patients generally notice softening of the masseter muscle at one week and softening of the jawline at around 6-8 weeks.

Some personal habits can contribute to your enlarged jaw muscles – the masseter. Excessive chewing of hard items/food and chewing gum can lead to an enlarged masseter muscle. Bruxism, can also enlarge the muscles for the same reason – excessive use, which causes the muscle to hypertrophy.

Appleskin method for botox injection into the masseter is quick and relatively painless (described as a pinch, sting by some patients) with no downtime.

Botox for Migrain : BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected to prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraine who have 15 or more days each month with headache lasting 4 or more hours each day in people 18 years or older. Chronic migraines are believed to affect 1.6% of adults.

BOTOX blocks the release of neuro-transmitters that are linked to causing pain. Neuro-transmitters are chemicals that carry nerve impulses. To prevent headache, Botox blocks these signals from reaching the central nervous system and causing the nerves to become highly sensitive. The recommended re-treatment schedule is every 12 weeks.

  1. Botox FAQ’s

What is Botox treatment?

Botox is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkles causing muscle, creating a rejuvenated appearance. Botox is a simple procedure that relaxes select facial muscles to smoothen out lines and wrinkles on your face. No anti ageing cream comes close to the skin smoothening effect of Botox.

How does Botox treatment work?

Botox can be used to relax specific facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles (these are the wrinkles that are formed during facial expression). Once the muscles are relaxed, you cannot contract them and continue to make the undesirable facial expression. Thus the lines gradually smooth and new lines are prevented from forming.

What does Botox treatment involve?

Botox treatment is a non-surgical procedure whereby a small amount of Botox is administered into selected facial muscles by a trained medical professional using a very fine needle. Generally, Botox treatment takes around 15minutes. Discomfort is typically minimal and brief, and no anaesthetetic is usually required. The injection may sting for a few second but normal activities can be resumed soon after. After the injection, results become visible in 3-7 days and it takes about 14 days to see the full effect. The dose recommended for the treatment will vary depending on your individual situation and the severity of your lines.

How long does Botox treatment last?

The effect can last up to 4 months before lines slowly begin to return; if you have repeat Botox treatment the effect tends to last longer. If you choose not to have further Botox treatment your muscles will eventually return to normal activity and your wrinkles will gradually revert to their pre-treatment levels.

Will facial expression be affected by Botox treatment?

Botox works specially on the muscles treated. This means that any muscles left untreated, including untreated facial muscles should not be affected by the Botox treatment.

Are there any side effects?

In addition to its use for cosmetic reasons, Botox treatment is also used to treat patient in a variety of therapeutic indications including cerebral palsy in children, movement disorders (head, neck, shoulder, face) and axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating). In the amounts used for the treatment of upper facial lines, the side effects are usually temporary localized to the area of injection. Possible side effects, include headaches, pain, burning/stinging, bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site, local muscles weakness including drooping eyelids/eyebrows, swollen eyelids, skin tightness, itching/aching forehead, nausea and flu-like symptoms.

Can Botox treatment be combined with other products and procedures?

Many people use a combination of cosmetic products and/or procedures with Botox. Your doctor will advise you as to whether or not you will receive results if your Botox treatment is combines with other products and/or procedures.
