Looking younger for longer is a popular obsession but what’s the scientific truth about younger looking skin, ask Cosmetic Dermatologist Dr. Deepti Dhillon.

Age-related skin changes are inevitable and include thinning, sagging, wrinkling and the appearance of age spots and areas of dryness. Exposure to sunlight is the single biggest culprit in aging skin.

For early signs of aging, Dr. Deepti Dhillon, Medical Director of Appleskin Clinics suggests treatments such as retinoids, vitamin C, and alpha hydroxy acids. Chemical Peels, Dermabrasion  or laser resurfacing may be an option for moderate to severe facial sun damage.

For older, drier skin, physical exfoliants can be irritating. Instead, reach for a chemical exfoliant containing an alpha-hydroxy or polyhydroxy acids available at a good cosmetic clinic to remove wrinkles and increase collagen production. Be sure to follow with an antioxidant-rich moisturizer and high SPF sunscreen.

Deeper facial lines may be treated with botulinum toxin or a class of cosmetic treatments, known as “dermal fillers,” which can fill in wrinkles, lift and support sagging skin and even help promote the growth of new collagen. Be sure to choose an experienced and board certified cosmetic doctor for your procedure.

The eyes can be opened up and the “crows’ feet” or the wrinkles around the eyes can be erased with BOTOX. Also younger girls can opt for a brow lift or more voluptuous lips. The mouth can look sensuous with full-bodied lips and upturned corners. The under eye dark and sunken areas can also be freshened up with dermal fillers. These are treatments that have no downtime and no side effects. With the right technique and experience, the swelling and bruising may be avoided.

At Appleskin clinics, we have increasing numbers of men who have Botox for frown and forehead lines. If you’re considering it, schedule a consultation with your cosmetic dermatologist to discuss your goals, options, costs, risks, and benefits.
