Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body’s contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. Liposuction involves the use of small stainless steel tube, called a cannula. The cannula is connected to a powerful suction pump and inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through fatty layers. After surgery, there tiny tunnels collapse and this result in improved body contour.

Liposuction is carried out on areas of the body where deposits of fat tend to collect, such as calves, knees, thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, above breast, arms, cheeks and chin.

Patients may take up to 2 weeks after surgery to go back to their normal work routine. The bruising and swelling disappears within 3 weeks. Recovery may take longer if large areas are treated. The stitches are dissolved on their own within 7-10 days. Strenuous activities are to be avoided for a month’s time.
