1.      How old do you have to be for laser hair removal?

There really is no age limit, but we never treat toddlers. Young people that are not finished growing will develop new hair as they grow, and will require touch ups to maintain the results. We currently do not treat children under the age of 13. Older people usually have gray hair that will not respond to laser.

2.       Are the results permanent?

Results vary depending on skin and hair type. Studies have shown that many patients can achieve permanent hair reduction of up to 85-90% and remaining hair returns lighter and softer.

3.      Is it painful?

People have compared it to a pinch on the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has very little discomfort. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. If you do find it uncomfortable, we can prescribe a numbing cream for the skin.

4.        Is it safe?

Laser treatments are very safe. Our lasers are FDA approved and use the best technology for delivering the safest treatment. These lasers do not remove skin, so the risks are very low. As with any procedure, we have an informed consent that explains all the possible risks. All of our technicians are certified and experienced with providing treatments to fit your needs.

5.      Is it safe for darker skin types?

Yes. Every Ideal Image center has two distinct lasers: one for lighter skin, and one for darker skin. No matter how dark the skin, our USFDA approved laser is considered the gold standard for treating unwanted hair on darker skin types. Its longer wavelength safely bypasses the skin and targets the melanin in the hair shaft, destroying the unwanted hair follicle. You will love your results!

6.       Are there any side effects?

Risks are minimal. There is no recovery or down time. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately. After the treatment you may experience a slight reddening of the skin similar to a sunburn that will resolve within a few hours to days. In certain instances (especially in patients with darker complexions) temporary pigment changes may occur, but will disappear within a month.

7.        How long do I wait between each session? How do I know when to come for my next treatment?

Facial Hair: Usually after first treatment, facial hair will shed within 10 days. Your next treatment will be when you start to see new hair growth, which is usually 5 to 6 weeks after the first treatment.

Below shoulder area: Within 3 treatments you will achieve smooth, ingrown free skin and at least 50% of hair reduction will be achieved. The first 3 treatments may have to be 6 to 8 weeks apart. Then you may need to come for the following treatments every 8 to 12 weeks.

The best way to estimate your treatment dates is to observe the new hair growth. The subsequent treatment is usually 4 to 6 weeks after the previous treatment.

8.          What measures are to be taken Post treatment?

After the treatments we advise you to treat your skin with care for next 24 hours. Taking showers with boiling hot water, sweating excessively, rough exfoliation or products that contain a lot of chemical ingredients should be avoided since they can cause itchy, sensitive skin. After this period of time you can return to your daily habits with no danger whatsoever.
